Al Hofeld’s $50,000 challenge to ETHS Foundation is matched!

The challenge was met and exceeded the $100,000 goal.  All challenge contributions will support renovations to the H-(Heritage) Hallway and the installation of wind turbines to enhance the Renewable Energy and Ecology Lab (REEL) on campus.  According to Al, "ETHS changed my life.  I went from a student who didn't read well to getting a four-year scholarship to Harvard.  That's why ETHS is so close to my heart."

We celebrated our 80th birthdays in Evanston In September 2016.  Click on 80th birthday party for photographs.  Classmates and guests enjoyed our 60th Reunion in October 2014--good times with good friends.  Check the pages of the website for photographs of the events.

Well done, ’54: donations to class scholarship gift in 2014 surpassed our goal of $5500 to reach $6000!

Eric Witherspoon, ETHS Superintendent praises us:

“The Class of 1954 is unchallenged as the most generous class in the history of ETHS.”   Refer to  “Class scholarship gift”  for more information.

John Donohue adds:  At our 50th we funded the “Class of 1954 50th Reunion Scholarships,"  two of which, one each to a  boy and a girl in the graduating class, were given each year  until  2019, when funds finally ran out.    Our class was instrumental in giving significant gifts as part of reunion, a practice which I am happy to note has been followed by many younger classes.  I’m exploring with the ETHS Foundation whether such future Scholarships might be noted as funded by a named member of the class.  I’m willing to match donations up to 10 Scholarships, if anyone else is interested.  Contact John for more information: johnmckd@aol.com
